Track Heroes Beginning to Emerge!
In General School News on May 19, 2010 at 11:42 amBig Day for OVS Athletics!
In General School News on May 19, 2010 at 9:45 amThe Grade 7 and 8 students were able to hold off a strong contingent of athletes from Elie yesterday, claiming the Track Meet title by a margin of 350-310. It was a great performance by both schools and a surprise result given the small number of Grade 7 students at the Panthers disposal. An injury suffered in a community soccer game the night before had further depleted the Grade 7′s ranks but the Grade 8 class was just strong enough to pick up the slack and help the school to another win. Elie brought an extremely competitive and well-behaved cadre of athletes and provided a stiff challenge to the Panthers. Congratulations to all the athletes involved. It was a great day to be a part of our community.
After the long, hot day on the track our Grade 6-8 girls headed in to Portage to play LVS in a soccer game. It was a well-played game that saw the Panthers wrap up a 6-1 win. The girls now sit with a 2-1 record and hold down second spot in the standings. The next game is on Thursday in Oakville at 4:15 pm.
Today the Grade 5 and 6 athletes take centre stage as they host North Memorial and Fort la Reine in a Track Meet!
Go Panthers!
Track Meet Underway…
In General School News on May 18, 2010 at 1:57 pmThe Grade 7 and 8 students are enjoying the spectacular weather today and sharing in the joys of competition. I have certainly had a great time seeing them push themselves to the limit in each event. Elie has brought a very strong team this year and our inferior numbers are certainly making it tough to keep up with them. The Panthers never quit though!
Track and Field Season is Here!
In General School News on May 17, 2010 at 9:28 amEvery year the students and staff at OVS prep the school yard for a big Track and Field showdown with some surrounding schools. In my day it was Elm Creek that was bussed in to be crushed by the mighty Panthers. Tomorrow it will be Elie’s turn. The Grade 7 and 8 students have been practicing hard in preparation for the big event and Mr. McDonald has been ever busy (as usual) getting the school ready to host our guests. It always proves to be an exciting day that is filled with competition and the forming of new friendships. I can’t wait!
On Wednesday it will be the Grade 5 and 6 students who will be in the spotlight when they welcome North Memorial and Fort la Reine. It promises to be another action packed day with our students showing off their athleticism and hospitality!
Both days start at 10:00 in the morning and will feature a canteen.
Go Panthers!
Congratulations!
In General School News on May 10, 2010 at 3:22 pmAs you have undoubtedly already heard, Mr. Gregg Waldvogel has been named the new Principal of Portage Collegiate Institute. As a former teacher at OVS we have no doubt that he will do an excellent job and continue to lead PCI in the same fashion that his esteemed predecessor has done!
Spring Performance Dazzles Sell-out Crowd!
In General School News on May 10, 2010 at 11:12 am“Sizzling!”
That was the sentiment after the Drama Club put on a remarkable show on Friday afternoon at the Panther’s Den! The students from grades 6 and 8 worked with Mrs. MacMillan and Mrs. Unruh to perform three short plays based on the books of Robert Munsch. The entire performance was titled Bunch of Munsch and had the capacity crowd giggling and chuckling as the show went on. In between skits the students took their turns singing and as usual, they were excellent. Thanks to the community members who joined us and the staff and students who made it happen!
